Eamon Dunphy slates the standard of football punditry in England

"And you can quote me on that"

“And you can quote me on that.”

Eamon Dunphy doesn’t seem to be the most popular figure amongst Irish football fans, judging by the reaction to articles on the RTE pundit.

However, if there’s one person who’s even less popular with Irish fans, it’s Thierry Henry, and Eamon has slaughtered the Sky Sports pundit during an interview in Saturday’s Irish Examiner.

Shannon asked the former Millwall and Republic of Ireland midfielder if he still thinks RTE are “far more insightful than the rest,” and Dunphy wasn’t about to miss out on a chance to stick it to the pundits across the water – particularly Henry and Sky Sports colleague Niall Quinn.

“Ah, it’s (RTE’s football coverage) different class. I’m watching BT; Jesus! Jamie Carragher, Gary Neville, they brought something to punditry in England. (Graeme) Souness is excellent. But Thierry Henry and Niall Quinn? For fuck’s sake! And you can quote me on that. Thierry Henry is there on £2 million a year, just sitting there as a tailor’s dummy.”
