“I’m not a begrudger. If Croatia win tonight, they’ll beat England.”
England are through the semi-finals of the World Cup. Gareth Southgate’s side secured their place in the last-four of the tournament with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Sweden on Saturday. England will now play either Croatia or Russia for a place in the World Cup final, where they will meet either France or Belgium.
Maybe football is coming home.
In the RTE studios, Eamon Dunphy was glowing in his praise of Southgate and the England team after the match. However, Liam Brady isn’t as convinced. The former Arsenal midfielder reckons that England aren’t particularly good, saying they have relied on set-piece goals to advance and create very little from open play.
Dunphy didn’t accept this theory though and said that his colleague’s statement was, “a bit begrudging.”
You can watch the clip here:
Eamon: "That's a bit begrudging."
Liam: "I'm not a begrudger. If Croatia win tonight, they'll beat England."
Eamon: "We'll have a big bet on that."
Darragh: "I'm looking forward to seeing you in your waistcoat."#RTEsoccer pic.twitter.com/gXLGCzRmVX— RTÉ Soccer (@RTEsoccer) July 7, 2018
