Donny van de Beek breaks silence on nightmare Man Utd spell

He has reflected on his time at the club.

Donny van de Beek has spoken about his torrid spell at Manchester United, as per recent reports.

In 2019, he was a midfield dynamite as a star-studded Ajax team reached the Champions League semifinals under current United manager Erik ten Hag.

Playing alongside the likes of Hakim Ziyech, Matthijs de Ligt and Frenkie de Jong, all players eventually engineered moves to some of Europe’s most elite clubs in the aftermath.

Ziyech moved to Chelsea, De Ligt to Juventus and Frenkie de Jong to the mighty Barcelona.

The following summer, Van de Beek moved to Manchester in a £35million move.

Despite huge promise and a sizeable transfer fee, he fell out of favour quickly at Old Trafford and made just 16 appearances over the past three seasons – including just one last campaign.

When asked about his time at the club, Van de Beek reaffirmed that he had nothing negative to say about his time at the English giants.

Speaking to ESPN Netherlands, he stated:

‘I try to enjoy myself again and I do that,’

‘It (Girona) is a beautiful club with good football, and I think I can help with that and I am working hard on that.

‘It is clear that nothing has come of it for either party (Manchester United). That is in the past, but not a single bad word about that club.

‘Of course I didn’t play a lot, but I did learn a lot. With good players around me and good people within the club. I will take those things with me into the future.’

During his time at Manchester United, Van de Beek also failed to make an impact on loan spells at the likes of Everton and Eintracht Frankfurt.

There were huge hopes that during his loan spell at Everton he could adapt to Premier League football, however sadly that never materialised.

Van de Beek now plays at La Liga club Girona.
