John Giles is one of Ireland’s most well-known personalities, mainly for making up one-half of the iconic duo of RTÉ punditry alongside Eamon Dunphy for the best part of 30 years.
Before that, he was one of the best players in the world and undoubtedly one of the finest that Ireland has ever produced.
On Monday night, RTÉ One will air GILES, as the man himself recounts his life story.
It will include Giles growing up in Ormond Square, moving over to England as a youngster and working as a factory apprentice during the week before lining out for Manchester United at the weekend.
The 76-year-old was part of an all-dominant Leeds United team back in the late 1960’s and early 1970’s and revisited Elland Road and Old Trafford in the making of the documentary.
But it isn’t just a football highlight reel, it’s a memoir of an Irish immigrant in England, a story of a wife and family that followed Giles throughout a nomadic career that brought him from Dublin to Vancouver and everywhere in between.
GILES will air at 9:35 pm on Monday night.
