Lovely video.
On Friday night, Derry City goes home. After a temporary move to Maginn Park, the Candystripes will return a brand spanking new Brandywell Stadium when they host Dundalk in the League of Ireland.
To celebrate the return to the Brandywell, the club have released a video entitled Back to Brandy.
Soundtracked by Derry-based artist ROE’s cover of Starship’s class We Built This City, it packs one hell of an emotional punch if you’re a Derry City fan.
Featuring clips of James McClean scoring, the fans beating drums in the stands and stock footage of classic wins from years gone by, it’s an emotional rollercoaster, especially if you’re connected to the club.
As for the stadium, it’s looking well. Remarkably well. Kitted out with a state-of-the-art media centre, the new Brandywell has a seated capacity of 975 and a total capacity of 3,700.
Candystripes fans will hope that a return home can kick-start their season. Kenny Shiels’ side have lost both League of Ireland games so far and face a daunting trip to Dalymount to face Bohemians on Tuesday night.
Friday night should be some occasion.
