David McGoldrick and Enda Stevens combine to rip open Martin O’Neill’s Forest

Republic of Ireland duo David McGoldrick and Enda Stevens combined brilliantly to earn Sheffield United a valuable 2-0 win at home over Nottingham Forest.

Forest centre-back Yohan Benalouane was sent off just after half-time before Sheffield opened the scoring through Mark Duffy and then Enda Stevens to secure the win.

The win keeps pressure on Norwich City at the top of the table and manager Chris Wilder insisted that there was still a long way to go for his side as they try and hold off Leeds United who play Wigan this afternoon.

“It’s a special group of players who always given everything for the football club, I’ve always said that and you could see how much they wanted that result,” Wilder told the club’s website after their win over Preston earlier this month.

“There is always going to be a lot of talk, a lot of noise and nonsense about what need to do and where they belong, but things change quickly during a week in football and it can change back too.

“There is still a hell of a long way to go and we’ll just keep grinding away.”

As for Forest, they now lie in 11th place in the Championship table, having lost four of their last five games. The pressure is undoubtedly mounting on Martin O’Neill and Roy Keane, with the pair having come in for criticism for playing some Forest players out of position.
