David Gold is a man of principle.
The West Ham co-owner has made the case for safe standing and buddy refs with access to video replays, while self-image is so important that he went out and signed Angelo Ogbonna purely to prove he hadn’t confused him with Pedro Obiang.
But there’s nothing Gold cares about more than clocks. Well, clocks going back, to be more precise.
He doesn’t see the point in Daylight Savings Time, and he’s been banging that particular drum since back in 2012.
Is there anyone out there who is actually pleased that the clocks have gone back.
— David Gold (@davidgold) October 28, 2012
We can only assume Gold spends that extra hour in bed raging against the unnecessary distraction.
Perhaps the clocks changing made him show up at the wrong time for a job interview when he was a youngster, or maybe he just doesn’t like seeing the sun set before 5pm as we get towards the end of the year.
'They' are putting the clocks back on Sunday morning, does anyone have any idea why???? dg

He’s pointed out that there was no ‘meddling’ for a few years in the late 60s and early 70s – incidentally the same time as the moon landings which he remembers so fondly.
50 years ago we put a man on the moon. So I don't think it's beyond the wit of man/woman to solve the problems at the new London stadium. dg

The Government didn't meddle with the clocks between 1968 and 1971 but it was deemed that it made Scotland too dark in the mornings. dg

Gold certainly seemed at his angriest in 2014, and insisted he was not alone in the matter.
So what, there are only '93' famers left in the UK out of 60m people who don't want the clocks turned back. dg

I've never met a single person that has said "isn't it great that the clocks have gone back" Leave our clocks alone. dg

It’s not the movement of the clocks specifically which he objects to – he wants to make that very clear.
“@HammerTimeView: How do you feel about tbe clocks going forward @davidgold
Great. Now leave them alone. dg

This year we even got a history lesson thrown in for free.
1916 it was believed that by putting the clocks back would reduce domestic coal consumption and increase the supplies for the war effort. dg

The First World War ended in 1918. dg

Not to mention a point about productivity (we think).
If we don't put the clocks back on Sunday we wouldn't have to go to all the trouble of putting them forward in March. dg
— David Gold (@davidgold) October 29, 2016
Though we’re starting to think it might have all been a huge, over-elaborate set-up for one of the oldest puns in the book.
If that is the case, we have no complaints.
Putting the clocks back is a waste of 'time' dg

Despite David Gold’s best efforts, the clocks will go back at 2:00am on October 30.
