Crystal Palace’s away record under Alan Pardew is simply remarkable

Yohan Cabaye’s second half penalty at Watford saw Palace move into the top six and continue a pretty amazing record on the road under Alan Pardew.

The Eagles bounced back from defeat at Tottenham last weekend to record their 11th win in 14 away matches under the former West Ham and Newcastle boss, in all competitions.

Already this season they have won at Norwich and Chelsea and Pardew must almost wish he did not have to return to Selhurst Park for their next two Premier League fixtures, against West Brom and West Ham.

Pardew was delighted with the narrowest of victories over promoted Watford.

“From a manager’s perspective it was a great day for me and my team,” he said.

“The concentration levels were really high today. There was some really good wide play and in the end that won us the game.

“I don’t smile often but I do smile today because I was really pleased, it wasn’t our greatest performance but it was a good, professional performance and as manager of the team that makes me happy.”

For his part Hornets boss Quique Glores had no problem with the penelaty, which was awarded after substitute Wilfired Zaha was taken down by Allan Nyom.

“We didn’t lose today because we conceded a penalty,” said the Spaniard.

“We lost today because we didn’t play well and Crystal Palace played better than us. We didn’t have a good performance.

“I’m not satisfied with the performance, we always try and do our best and create attempts but sometimes it is impossible. At half-time we tried to change something but it was a normal match other than the penalty.”

For the record, the two home teams other than Spurs to beat Pardew’s Palace? Southampton and Chelsea.
