Cork duo demolish Hull in Championship clash

Lee Costello

“Egan, Egan Egan.”

Ireland’s John Egan was in flying form against Hull in the Championship, scoring not once, but twice from a set-piece.

Both goals came from corners and both came off Egan’s head to find the back of the net, as the Irish defender helped Sheffield United seal a 3-1 win.

More good news for Stephen Kenny was the fine form of Conor Hourihane who got both assists for Egan’s goals.

Talk about having a strong Cork connection as the two lads form the Rebels county were in unstoppable form yesterday.

The Sheffield fans were keen to show their appreciation for the brace-scoring Irishman, chanting his name at the end of the game.

Egan took to Twitter to show his appreciation for their support.

The first goal saw Egan give his marker the runaround, cutting ack, looping around, before attacking the space and getting his head on the end of the corner to make it 2-0 at that stage.

His second goal was a real peach however, clearly feeling empowered and confident from his earlier effort, he darted to near the post and flicked on an unstoppable header to really seal the win for Sheffield.
