However, his wife Coleen has responded to the online criticism of the player, who is set to be dropped for England's World Cup qualifier away to Slovenia on Tuesday night, and has found himself out of the United team for the past two games.
Rooney has been subjected to an awful lot of criticism in recent months due to his poor form for club and country. The player may be worth a lot of money, and criticism comes with the territory for such a high-profile figure, particularly when you're not in good form, but that doesn't mean he, or his family, won't be affected.
The 30-year-old was booed leading out England against Malta on Saturday evening, and it appears that, combined with online criticism, pushed his wife Coleen into responding.
