Ciaran Clark linked with potentially controversial Premier League transfer

Robert Redmond

How would this go down with Aston Villa fans?

Ciaran Clark is the subject of a bid worth £4.5m, plus add-ons, from West Brom, according to The Sun.

The Republic of Ireland central defender is reportedly a long-term target of Tony Pulis, and the Baggies’ boss attempted to sign him when Joleon Lescott moved between the clubs last summer.

If the deal was to go through in this window, it would arguably be controversial, as Clark, who came through Villa’s academy, would be leaving Villa to join their midlands’ rivals.

The 26-year-old wasn’t a regular last season as the club were relegated from the Premier League, but is believed to be part of Roberto Di Matteo’s plans for the upcoming campaign.

However, if West Brom raise their bid, Villa will reportedly be tempted to sell the player that has featured 159 times for the club.
