Chelsea fans have made a banner trolling Steven Gerrard ahead of LA Galaxy friendly

Yeah, they're still going on about that slip...

Robert Redmond

The one thing Steven Gerrard can’t miss about home is being abused by Chelsea fans.

Supporters of the London club loved mocking the former Liverpool captain almost as much as they love John Terry, their captain, leader, legend, and there’s one moment in particular they’ll never let Gerrard forget – his infamous slip in April 2014.

Liverpool were in pole position to win their first league title in 24 years, and went into the game against Chelsea at Anfield knowing if they avoided defeat, and won their remaining games, they would be champions.

Just before half-time, Gerrard failed to control a pass on the halfway line, slipping as he attempted to recover his footing and could only watch on in agony as Demba Ba raced through on goal unopposed and opened the scoring.

Chelsea won the game, Manchester City won the title and Gerrard was mocked relentlessly by fans of opposition clubs, and particularly Chelsea supporters.

Ahead of Wednesday’s friendly between LA Galaxy and Chelsea in California, some Chelsea fans have commissioned this special, and very original, banner mocking Gerrard’s record of winning Premier League titles compared to Terry.

Of course, no Chelsea player has ever slipped, lost out on a trophy and cried about it.

No, that’s never happened.
