Madrid police warn of elaborate plot to steal Champions League final tickets

Fake steward bibs, ticket scanners and false accreditation have already been seized in Madrid.

Madrid police have warned supporters of Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur to be vigilant of criminal gangs looking to steal Champions League final tickets by posing as stewards.

The two sides meet in the city’s Wanda Metropolitano Stadium, home to Atletico Madrid, on Saturday night. Thousands of English fans have made the journey to the city without a ticket and demand is high ahead of kick-off.

As the tweet below shows, some tickets have changed hands for thousands of pounds.

Eager to exploit this, local police warned fans to be wary of gang members dressed as stewards, explaining that fake steward bibs, ticket scanners and false accreditation have already been seized by authorities.

The message relayed by James Pearce of the Liverpool Echo, supporters are urged to only show their match tickets when in the Uefa check zones – all of which are clearly marked.

Liverpool and Tottenham fans will need their wits about them.
