Brian Kerr’s brilliant reaction to Moura’s last minute winner against Ajax

Paul Moore

“You little dixie!” Guaranteed to make your day better.

Will we ever see two consecutive knockout matches like those that unfolded in the Champions League again?

In recent years, Europe’s elite football competition has served up some cracking comebacks – we’re thinking about Barcelona overcoming PSG, Roma dumping out Barcelona last year, and Manchester United’s recent win against PSG – but it’s arguable that nothing can top the events that unfolded at Anfield and The Johan Cruyff Arena.

No Salah, No Firmino, no problem.

3-0 down from the first leg against one of the greatest sides in the world, Liverpool’s astonishing comeback against Messi and co. will be held in the same regard as their final against AC Milan in Istanbul because Klopp’s men absolutely tore into Barcelona, right from the first minute.

A brace from Divock Origi and Gini Wijnaldum saw the ‘Pool book their place in Madrid but who would they be facing, Ajax or Spurs?

Going into the second-leg in Amsterdam, Pochettino’s men were facing a difficult task after losing their home tie against the Dutch giants.

With an away goal to chase, Spurs made the worst possible start after Matthijs de Ligt’s towering header gave the hosts an early lead. Hakim Ziyech doubled Ajax’s lead on the night with a curling finish and the visitors were left with a mountain to climb.

At this stage, Spurs were 3-0 down on aggregate and had an hour to salvage their Champions League dream.

On came Fernando Llorente and the Spanish striker proved to be the catalyst that kickstarted the comeback, however, there’s no denying who the man of the match was.

Lucas Moura reduced the deficit with a composed finish before the Brazilian’s jinking feet bought him enough space in the box to fire past Onana in the Ajax goal to make it 2-2.

However, the best was saved for last because with 95 minutes on the clock, Moura latched onto a through-ball from Dele Alli to fire Spurs into the Champions League final.

As Moura’s last two goals went in, Virgin Media Sport pundit Brian Kerr couldn’t contain his delight as Pochettino’s men booked their place in the final against Liverpool.

“You little dixie!” is just another one of those wonderful Brian Kerr moments that can be added to the list of brilliant commentary that he has provided over the years.

Truth be told, there are so many elements to this clip that make it gold.

The cursing, his happy little shimmy, the punches to the air, Kerr’s running commentary, the high fives, even more cursing.

Football at its very finest.

Take a look.
