The long road to recovery begins now.

Brentford have released an update on the condition of midfielder Alan Judge following his horrific injury against Ipswich at the weekend.

Judge suffered a double leg fracture in a bad challenge and was quickly taken to hospital, where the Ireland international underwent surgery on his leg last night.

Brentford medical chief Neil Greig said in a statement: “Following a fracture injury to his lower leg during Saturday’s game, Alan last night (Monday) underwent successful surgery to repair the injury and will now begin the early stages of recovery.

“Whilst the injury is clearly significant, Alan has been placed under the care of the leading lower limb consultant in the country, whose experience in managing such injuries in unparalleled. As such, there is every confidence that we will achieve a positive outcome.”

While Judge’s Euro 2016 dream is over and he will almost certainly start next season on the sidelines, Greig refused to put a timeframe on the 27-year-old’s return, but said he was confident that he would eventually bounce back to full match fitness.

“Alan is a determined character and I have no doubt that he will commit fully to the challenge of returning fitter and stronger than before,” Greig said.

“He will continue to receive the fullest support from the outstanding group of medical and conditioning staff at BFC during what is clearly a difficult time for him and his family. It is too early to speculate on recovery timescales at this stage and we will provide further information as we are able to.”
