Brendan Rodgers and Patrick Roberts are destined to be a match-made in heaven.
As a manager, one of Rodgers’ greatest strengths is his ability to nurture young, creative talent and that simply sums Patrick Roberts up.
The on-loan Manchester City winger has been a revelation since moving to Celtic on an 18-month loan deal, scoring six goals as he helped the Hoops secure the Scottish Premiership title for the fifth year running.
And ahead of Rodgers’ first season in Scotland, he’s received a massive boost with the news that Roberts has been made available to play for him in the qualifying stages of the Champions League.
Roberts was expected to be required in Germany to prepare for England’s Under-19s European Championship which would have clashed with Celtic’s Champions League qualifiers.
But, to Rodgers’ relief, the English FA have allowed the 19-year-old to feature for his club in late July.
The Scottish Daily Record reports that the FA believe the benefit that Roberts would get from playing competitively at Champions League level is worth leaving him out of the international squad.
Everything’s coming up Brodge!
