“I think Liverpool have a great chance"

Liverpool could well end their Premier League drought this season, according to former manager Brendan Rodgers.

Rodgers came in for massive criticism on Tuesday night, not only for his team selection ahead of Celtic’s shock defeat at the hands of Gibraltarian side Lincoln Red Imps, but also for his claims after the game that “there’s no embarrassment.”

But, not to be beaten by the undeniably trying start to his life with the Hoops, Rodgers duly appeared on talkSPORT on Wednesday morning where he discussed the result as well as his predictions for the upcoming Premier League season.

Sacked by Liverpool last October, Rodgers has backed his former side to flourish with the lack of distraction that so often comes with European football.

“I think Liverpool have a great chance this year,” Rodgers said.

“Liverpool and Chelsea don’t have European football and that’s a huge advantage for you, where you can prepare your team all week for just the one game every week.

“Of course, you’ll have domestic cup games in between that, but I think Liverpool will have a good chance this year.

“But it will be very competitive with the coaches that have come into the Premier League, that makes it exciting and I’m sure it’ll be a fantastic season.”
