Barcelona were never going to play it safe with their new away kit

Another interesting choice of colour.

Sick of reading stuff about new kits yet? Of course you’re not – that’s why you’re here.

Today, it’s the turn of the mighty Barcelona to show off their new away shirt for season 2016/17.

As many of you will know, the Catalans have a long, proud history of not giving a shit about what colour their players wear when away from home, turning their boys out in some truly retina-scorching outfits down the years.

You know what I mean. This sort of thing…

Added to that, they’ve also experimented with mint-green and a turqoisy-blue shade, too down the years.

But the Catalans haven’t exhausted the spectrum of unusual away kit colours just yet, not by a long way. The latest offering from Nike is a slightly less squint-inducing purple, with a pink trim.

Barca shared images of the new strip via their website and Twitter page on Thursday morning. As with their latest home shirt, their second jersey is, for now, sponsor-less. As we told you a few months back, the Spanish champions have been trying to secure a lucrative shirt sponsorship deal for a while now, and having failed to strike a new deal with previous shirt sponsors, Qatar Airways, the club announced that their new sponsor – whoever it may be – won’t be ready in time for the launch of their new kits.

With the unveiling of their new away kit, perhaps the fellas at Vimto will be on the phone straight away.
