Bad news for Manchester United fans as Mauricio Pochettino agrees new Spurs contract

Five-year deal

Kevin Beirne

Mauricio Pochettino has verbally agreed to a new contract that will keep him at Tottenham Hotspur for the next five years.

The Argentine has impressed since arriving to the Premier League first with Southampton, before moving to North London in 2014.

Pochettino has been linked with moves away to Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain, but this new contract extension ties him to Tottenham until 2021.

The former Argentinian international has won over fans with his team’s attacking style, as well as his propensity to promote young players like this season’s top goalscorer Harry Kane and the newly-crowned PFA Player of the Year Dele Alli to the first team.

With three games remaining in the season, Spurs – who have the youngest average age in the Premier League – find themselves seven points behind leaders Leicester but five points ahead of both Manchester City and Arsenal in third and fourth place.

While the title appears to have slipped away, Tottenham are on course to finish above North London rivals Arsenal for the first time in two decades.

And Tottenham fans were overjoyed with the news.
