Atletico Madrid boss mocks Manchester United after Antoine Griezmann interest

This will/won't go down well in Manchester...

Give that man some sugar cos he is salty.

The rumours linking Antoine Griezmann to Manchester United won’t go away. In fact they’re being very conveniently stretched over a week of very little other football news. In a sport that has proved time and time again that there is plenty of smoke without fire, plenty are adamant that flumes of foggy stories linking the Frenchman to Old Trafford must involve a flame of truth.

The loud whispers haven’t escaped the higher echelons of the Vicente Calderón, where the sass factor has clearly been turned up to eleven. Speaking after his side’s defeat to Barcelona in the Copa del Rey semi-final, Atletico president Enrique Cerezo was quizzed about the rumour.

“I believe in the contracts that people sign, that goes for [Diego] Simeone and [Antoine] Griezmann,” was his curt response, including Diego Simeone’s name after constant speculation about the Argentine’s future too. He then followed it up with this mean girl comment about Griezmann’s suitors: “Manchester United? A small team.”

Meow! Oh no he di’int! etc. In fairness to Cerezo, he was far more generous towards Atletico alum Sergio Aguero, currently in the news for warming Manchester City’s bench due to the instant success of Brazilian hotshot Gabriel Jesus. For him, there was only kind words.

“I said on the radio that [Sergio] Aguero was a fool, but he’s not a fool. He is one of the best players in the history of football, and I said he was stupid for leaving Atletico. He’s a great player and a good friend, I wish him all the luck of the world at Manchester City.”

Praising a City star whilst calling United a ‘small team’? We think Enrique Cerezo may just have blue himself.
