Arsenal to move for Dortmund’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang if Alexis Sanchez leaves

Matthew Gault

What a signing he would be.

Arsenal are preparing for life without Alexis Sanchez by lining up a move for Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Sanchez is expected to leave either this month or in the summer, when his contract expires, and Arsene Wenger is keen to secure the Chilean’s replacement should he leave during the current window. Sanchez has been heavily tipped with a move to Manchester City and, according to Di Marzio (widely regarded as the most reliable source for transfer news), Arsenal have turned to Aubameyang in their hunt for a replacement.

Aubameyang is one of the hottest properties in European football after establishing himself as a prolific striker in the Bundesliga. The 28-year-old Gabon international boasts a mightily impressive record, with 141 goals in 212 appearances.

Last season, he struck 40 times in 46 games and has continued to find the net with seemingly consummate ease in the current campaign, scoring 21 in 23. He has been the top scorer in the Bundesliga in each of the last three seasons and was named Player of the Season in the 2014/15 season.

Known for his blistering pace and deadly finishing, Aubameyang would certainly be a fantastic candidate to succeed Sanchez in the Arsenal attack. With his pace, dynamism and killer instinct, he could link up well with the likes of Alexandre Lacazette and Mesut Ozil, whose future also remains undetermined.

Aubameyang has been linked with Real Madrid, AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain in the past and could cost the Gunners around €65-70 million.
