It all became a bit emotional for Herrera
Former Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera walked out of the club’s official podcast after breaking down in tears when asked about his departure from the club.
Herrera became a fan favourite during his five years at the club before leaving on a free transfer to join Paris Saint-Germain in 2019.
The Spaniard has recently rejoined Athletic Bilbao – the club he left to sign for United – this summer but is best known for his stint in the Premier League.
“That was painful for me”
However when he sat down with United to discuss his time at the club it all became a bit too much for him as he explained the story behind his departure in which he believed that his contract situation could have been handled better.
“To leave, it was difficult because six months before, five months before, I was expecting that offer for me to stay,” he said.
“I don’t want to, it’s not the moment to talk bad about anyone and I am not going to do it, but after my third season with the club I expected a little bit more from the club at that time.
“I got the Player of the Year award by the fans and the club didn’t call me that summer to sign a new contract, and they did with other players. That was painful for me, honestly.”
A hard goodbye ❤️

He was then asked if he felt emotional about the departure. Ander Herrera then referenced a photo he had taken with his daughter before breaking down in tears and leaving the room.
The midfielder returned to finish the rest of the podcast but tributes have since poured in from fans who recognise his love for the club.
“I miss this guy, what a player and always gave everything for the badge,” wrote one fan.
