Fergie’s backed the Foxes for the title.
It’s handy for Alex Ferguson that Leicester’s incredible season has taken the focus off the goings on at Old Trafford this season.
If the former Manchester United manager was interviewed in any other normal season, all the focus would be on Louis van Gaal’s impending demise, or the battle for a Champions League place.
But Leicester’s rise to the top now means that Ferguson is distracted by their performances, their spirit, and how they remind him of his own heyday at Old Trafford.
The 74-year-old has backed the Foxes for the title, and has this advice when, or if, a blip in their title charge comes.
“It’ll be testing times for them. They have to get it in their mind that they’ll drop a point or two, they may drop three points, they may lose a game.
“But others will drop points, that’s the name of the game in the Premier League. It’s a tough league.
“I can only see Tottenham as being the danger to be honest with you. At the moment they’re playing some of the best football I’ve seen from any Tottenham team in many years.
“But Leicester I think have got the edge. I think they’ve got that togetherness.”
Leicester’s last three wins have all been by 1-0 and Ferguson, speaking to Sky Sports, feels that the sense of destiny about their title win this season reminds him of something similar to his success with Manchester United in 1997.
“I think it was 1996-97 we won eight games 1-0 and won the league. These are championship-winning games without question.
“The consistency has been there all season. If they retain that consistency I can’t see anything going wrong for them.”
Start engraving that trophy, the great man has spoken.
