Now this is an ultimate XI.
Alan Shearer has been added to the FIFA video game as part of the Ultimate Team legends pack. For those not familiar with the game, the Ultimate Team option is where players can buy packs featuring footballers to create their dream XI. Like Premier League stickers back in the day, only you didn’t have pay sixty quid for the sticker book like you do with the game.
Shearer leads the all-time Premier League goalscoring chart, with 260 goals in 14 years for Blackburn Rovers and Newcastle, and won the league title 20 years ago. And has now returned to video consoles.
‘It’s great to return to the game, my son plays a lot of FIFA so when I was approached about becoming an EA SPORTS FIFA Ultimate Team Legend,’ Shearer said. ‘I knew it was a great honour to join the likes of Pele, Moore and my old mate Gary Lineker in the game. I just hope they got my celebration right’.
To celebrate his inclusion in the FIFA Ultimate Team, Shearer selected his all-time greatest XI for game manufacturers EA Sports, and it’s a serious team.
Shearer opts for a 3-5-2 formation, with wing-backs, and features some of the best footballers to ever play the game.
The only caveat was that Shearer had to select players who feature on the game’s Ultimate Team legend team, but it’s hard to argue against any of the selections.
Shearer opts for Peter Schmeichel in goal. A back three of Paulo Maldini, Franz Beckenbauer and Bobby Moore, with Roberto Carlos and Luis Figo as wingbacks. Roy Keane, Patrick Vieira and Rudd Gullit are in midfield, and Marco van Basten and Pele are up front.
Between them they’ve won eight World Cups, five European Championships and numerous European Cups and individual awards. An amazing team.
We’re not sure about Figo as a wingback though.
