It’s unlikely that any of us had even heard of Gianluigi Donnarumma six months ago, but now the youngster is apparently worth £119m.
That’s not a typo. The 16-year-old goalkeeper, whose professional career is less than 10 games old, has had a huge price tag slapped on him by agent Mino Raiola.
Donnarumma has risen to first choice at AC Milan and drawn comparisons with Gianlugi Buffon, but is still just a teenager.
The comments come amid rumours of interest from the Premier League, but Raiola – who also represents players including Mario Balotelli and Paul Pogba – is deadly serious with his valuation.
“I liken him to a [painting by Italian artist] Modigliani. Worth €170 million (£119.8m),” Raiola told Premium Sport.
“He has a great future, he is an amazing guy…and can become a great champion.”
Still, that’s a lot of money to pay for potential alone.
