Maybe mum isn’t the word
Adrien Rabiot’s move to Manchester United is on the verge of collapsing due to a standstill in negotiations with his agent, which also happens to be… his mother.
United have reportedly agreed a deal with Juventus in the region of £15.2m, with the Italian side happy to let the Frenchman leave the club.
But Sportsmediaset have said the move could now be in doubt due to a dispute over how much Rabiot should be earning.
Vernonique Rabiot is said to be preparing to meet United’s representatives on Friday where she will demand her client, and son, receives a salary higher than the £6m-a-year he currently earns at Juventus.
Rabiot isn’t in the club’s plans this season and they are keen to let him leave. With just a year left on his contract, Juventus also know that this will be the last chance to gain any kind of fee before he is allowed to leave for free at the end of the season.
The Frenchman has also been in contact with United boss Erik ten Hag, who is keen to bolster his midfield options following the opening day loss to Brighton and Hove Albion.
Ten Hag’s number one priority has been Frenkie De Jong but reports have suggested that the club are prepared to walk away from the deal with Barcelona.
Chelsea now seem like the new frontrunners to secure the Dutchman’s signature and rub further salt into the wounds of United after a difficult summer in the market.
United have made three signings this summer, bringing in Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen and Lisandro Martinez. Both Eriksen and Martinez made their debuts in the defeat. to Brighton.
