Burnley must be getting pretty impatient.
1 July – Danny Ings officially signs for Liverpool.
29 August – Danny Ings makes competitive debut for Liverpool.
20 September – Danny Ings scores first Liverpool goal.
That’s 12 weeks between signing and scoring and Liverpool still have no idea how much the player will cost them.
The Reds are still awaiting the outcome of the all-confusing transfer tribunal meeting who have yet to decide on the valuation of the former Burnley striker.
The fact that Ings is 23 years old and was out of contract this summer means that The Professional Football Compensation Committee must sit to decide on his price.
It’s believed that Liverpool offered around £6 million (€8 million) while Burnley valued their star man at around £10 million (€14 million).
The Liverpool Echo have broken down the considerations taken into account by the PFCC which include “the status of the two clubs at the time of the transfer, the player’s age, the wages he will receive from his new club and the time he spent at his previous club – in Danny Ings’ case four years.”
His goalscoring record and appearances are also reviewed, as is any interest from other clubs which, in Ings’ case would be Spurs who were willing to offer around £12 million (€16.5 million) for the player.
Bizarrely, nobody seems to know when the PFFC are due to meet and give both clubs the chance to make their case for their valuation of Ings so Burnley will have to continue emptying out the “for a rainy day” coin jar for a little while yet.
