No fear

Rio 2016 is just over the horizon and although we would hope for lots of medals across various disciplines we all know that boxing is our best hope of taking some prizes away from the next games in Brazil..

And two of our brightest hopes can seal their place on the plane to South American tonight if they claim wins in the final round of the World Series of Boxing event in Venezuela tonight.

Paddy Barnes is currently ranked the the best fighter in the  light-fly division and if he wins tonight Yoel Segundo Finol Rivas, he will secure his place at yet another Olympic games.

Barnes is unbeaten so far in the campaign, and is two points clear of his closest challenger for a spot at Rio,Hasanboy Dusmatov. Barnes needs just a points victory tonight to secure his place at a third Olympics but Rivas has not dropped a round in his last three contests and has won four of six bouts

Michael Conlan is currently ranked fourth of the bantamweights, but with the top two going to Rio he needs a win and some other results to go his way to secure his plane ticket.

He faces Jose Vincente Diaz Azocar in his fight right after Barnes and comes in with a 4-2 record.

A win will put him second only if Azerbaijan’s Magomed Gurbanov loses.
