Nike has terminated its contract with Manny Pacquiao.

The Filipino boxer has been with Nike since 2006 but was dropped on Wednesday following his comments opposing gay marriage.

Pacquiao was embroiled in controversy this week when he said that gay couples were “worse than animals.”

“It’s common sense. Do you see animals mating with the same sex?” he said. “Animals are better because they can distinguish male from female.

“If men mate with men and women mate with women they are worse than animals.”

Despite apologising, Pacquiao has seen his contract with Nike terminated and all of his merchandise has already been dropped from their website.

The global manufacturing company used their statement of announcing their split with Pacquiao to further throw their support behind the LGBT community and to oppose discrimination of any kind.
