It’s all about symmetry.

Katie Taylor fought on the biggest stage of her career Saturday night, as she dismantled Germany’s Nina Meinke as part of the undercard to Anthony Joshua’s thrilling heavyweight win over Vladimir Klitschko.

The seventh round stoppage victory in just her fifth professional bout earned her the WBA inter-continental lightweight belt and secured her a shot for the WBA lightweight world title.

Afterwards, promoter Eddie Hearn confirmed that the Bray sensation will fight for a world title later this year, provided she wins her next fight, which is likely to be in the United States.

“We are looking for an October-November date in Ireland for a world title,” said Hearn.

“America is next in June or July possibly on the Andre Ward-Sergey Kovalev bill. She’s the most entertaining female fighter on the planet – what you saw tonight was more professionalism.”

Following the disappointing end to her record-breaking amateur career at the Rio Olympics, there were some fears Taylor might struggle in the pro ranks, but since making her bow in November, she has looked right at home.

Her manager Brian Peters summed up the whirlwind few months with the perfect tweet on Sunday night.

Taylor, rehydrating after her previous night’s endeavours, her face unmarked despite seven rounds with a previously undefeated opponent, is driven away from the 90,000-seater stadium where she excelled in her fifth ever pro bout.

“Five months, five fights, five wins. It’s been an incredible journey so far with Katie Taylor,” wrote Peters. “Looking forward to the next stop.”

Exciting times for Irish boxing.
