There is a chance Katie Taylor won’t be boxing for a world title this weekend after all.
Katie Taylor was scheduled to take on Anahi Sanchez for the WBA lightweight title on the Anthony Joshua vs Carlos Takam undercard in Cardiff on Saturday night.
The Pride of Bray has been on the tear since switching to the professional ranks breezing past every opponent she has faced and her reward was a world title fight in just her seventh pro outing. However, that is now in doubt following Friday’s weigh-ins.
Taylor tipped the scales at 9st 8lbs, but Sanchez came in one pound over the limit at 9st 10lbs. She has two hours to cut an extra pound. If she’s unable to shed the extra weight, her belt will become vacant.

Taylor didn’t seem too fazed by her opponent missing weight at the first time of asking. She was the paragon of calmness as she spoke to Sky Sports.
“Doesn’t bother me. I’ve completely focused on my performance. My mind is purely on the fight. It’s up to her to get the weight off. Tomorrow evening is definitely the biggest night of my career.”
