We can only imagine what was going through Katie Taylor’s head during Friday’s weigh-ins.
It’s all been leading up to this for Katie Taylor.
After dominating the amateur circuit for years, the Pride of Bray decided to make the switch to the professional ranks and so far, so good.
She’s already breezed to victory in her first six bouts and her dominance was rewarded with a crack at WBA lightweight champion Anahi Sanchez on the undercard of Anthony Joshua’s first heavyweight world title defence.
All those years of grinding in the gym, perfecting technique, taking on the best boxers in the most prestigious tournaments in the sport lead her to this point, but it looked like it was going to slip out of her fingers on Friday.

Taylor did her job by making weight. Her confidence stepping onto the scale was vindicated as it was announced that she came in at 9st 8lbs.
Job done, then the only thing to focus on was the fight itself.
Next to emerge on stage was the defending champion. Unfortunately, when she stood on the scales it read one pound over the limit. Although she gave a very calm interview with Sky Sports shortly after, it was clear in that moment that she wasn’t happy.

She gave a big outtake of breathe and gave her opponent a glare. She averted her gaze as she walked past Sanchez to get in position for the staredown. She knew the wait was coming.
Two hours later, the Argentine missed weight again, but it was agreed that the fight will still go ahead on Saturday. Sanchez forfeited her belt and only Taylor can win the vacant title with a win in Cardiff.
