Humble in defeat.
Katie Taylor is still coming to terms with her shock defeat the Rio Olympics.
The 2012 Olympic champion failed to advance past Finland’s Mira Potkonen in the quarter-final of the women’s 60kg division.
Taylor never settled into the fight, and lost on a split-decision, becoming the sixth Irish fighter to taste defeat at the Games.
The 30-year-old’s post-fight interview on RTE was a tough watch. Taylor was understandably crestfallen and struggling to articulate her disappointment at losing the contest.
Taylor didn’t reflect on the defeat later in the evening, but chose instead to thank her fans for their support during a difficult year for the boxer.
In the midst of a disappointing year, I just want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart for the amazing support. I love you all.
