Katie Taylor out-dos even herself with nasty third round stoppage of Kimberley Connor

Conan Doherty

Katie Taylor is just vicious.

Very few fighters in the history of professional female boxing can or could land combinations as ferociously and as relentlessly as she does.

The mandatory defence of the Bray native’s IBF and WBA titles went as impressively as her other nine pro career wins.

A third round stoppage (1 minute and 43 seconds) saw Taylor unify her belts and sets her sights, immediately, on Chicago and on October.

Taylor’s record now stands at 10-0 after beating Kimberley Connor at the O2 arena on Saturday night.

Fights – 10
Wins – 10
KOs – 5

In the first round, she came out fast, furious and fearless. One-twos and one-two-three-fours were landed on Conor’s head and body with no let up and Taylor swept the round comfortably.

When Taylor emerged for the second round, however, there was some nasty swelling very evident beneath her right eye which could only have come from a clash of heads such was her dominance. It was a new obstacle for the Irish hero to deal with and the opponent went after it but Taylor was too fast and too aggressive that she kept Connor on the back foot.

With the swelling increasing, Taylor went after Connor with more vigour to get the job done quicker and leave nothing to chance.

So she came out in the third round and went after her and, eventually, she caught her clean with some deadly right hands straight and heavy into the jaw of Connor.

Body shots, head shots and, eventually, the referee had to intervene and Katie Taylor marches on.
