Fighters are often made or broken when put on the world’s stage.
And, in boxing terms, there was no bigger stage this weekend than the Esprit Arena in Dusseldorf where Wladimir Klitschko lost his heavyweight titles to heavy underdog Tyson Fury.
But it was an Irish fighter who stole the show on the undercard as Jono Carroll continued his perfect professional record with his ninth win.
Carroll, who trains out of Packie Collins’ Celtic Warriors Gym in Blanchardstown, fought Miguel Gonzalez a few hours before the big men took to the ring.
Super featherweight Carroll picked Gonzalez apart from the outset and never looked in danger of being caught by his Honduran opponent at any stage of the 10 round bout.
The 23-year-old was awarded a unanimous decision victory and is definitely one to watch as Ireland continues to maintain its terrific boxing reputation.
Congratulations @jono_carroll well in pal 👏👏👏
