This is tragic.
Carl Frampton has paid tribute to Alejandro Gonzalez Jr, his former opponent who has been murdered in Mexico.
According to ESPN, the 23-year-old boxer was found dead on Friday alongside two others in a Jeep near his home in Guadalajara, after being “executed.”
Gonzalez Jr. fought Frampton in July 2015 in El Paso, Texas, and lost to the Northern Irishman by unanimous decision.
The Mexican boxer had a record of 31 fights, 25 wins, with 15 coming by knockout, and three losses.
His last fight was at the end of October and ended in a draw against Hector Esnar Bobadilla in his hometown.
Frampton paid tribute to Gonzalez Jr. on Twitter when news of his passing broke.
