Carl Frampton issues response to remark about his physique

"Fat bastard"

Ben Kiely

We’re pretty sure Carl Frampton has only been ‘too heavy’ once in his entire life.

Carl Frampton was too heavy for his scheduled Belfast return in 2017. He was set to fight Andreas Guttierrez in a WBC title-eliminator bout, but after missing weight by 1lb, Frampton ruled himself out of the prize of a title fight against champion Gary Russell Jr. The fight ended up getting called off entirely because of an accident Gutierrez suffered the night before the fight.

That was 11 months ago. He’s made weight twice since then and appears to be in the shape of his life.

However, according to his next opponent, Luke Jackson, Frampton ‘looks a bit heavy’. The undefeated Aussie said the following to BoxingScene:

“I’ve seen some footage of Carl’s training. He still looks sluggish and bit heavy. It seems he is always on a plane going to places.”

The Belfast man hasn’t shied away from responding to Jackson’s jabs. It wasn’t that long ago when Jackson took aim at Frampton’s amateur career in an interview with Frank Warren TV.

“I’ve fought some very good guys as an amateur and I’ll be the first to say that as a professional I haven’t fought the guys Carl Frampton has fought. Carl Frampton hasn’t done what I did as an amateur. He never represented his country at the Olympic Games.”

Frampton responded to that with, ‘I’m lucky it’s not amateur boxing then’ followed by a snoozy-face emoji. He fought fire with fire in response to the latest jab, this time about his appearance.

He’ll need a standing eight count after that.

Frampton is embracing the new look that has been bestowed on him.

Frampton and Jackson will have a chance to settle their beef with their fists next month. They fight in Windsor Park on August 18.
