Anyone who can’t wait for Michael Conlan’s homecoming may be very frustrated

He has yet to fight professionally on Irish soil

When, oh when are we going to see Michael Conlan box on these shores again?

Since joining the professional ranks, Michael Conlan has scored three TKO victories in as many fights.

He made his debut in New York on St Patrick’s Day, headed to the Windy City for his sophomore bout and completed his hat-trick of finishes Down Under in Brisbane.

Although he has no opponent for his next assignment, he does have a date and venue. His fourth professional fight will take place on September 22 in Tucson, Arizona.

When Conlan was first signed to Top Rank Promotions, it emerged that there was a stipulation in his contract that meant he must have at least one fight in Ireland every year. As we head into the final quarter of 2017, there has been no indication of when or where his first professional fight on Irish soil will take place.

As Conlan told BoxingScene.com though, he may not even have a fight in Ireland this year.

“That is the plan, I’m not sure it’s going to happen this year because they want to have me as a main event. But we do have it under contract that we can have at least one fight a year in Ireland and it’s up to me whether I want to take it or not.”

If you’re fed up waiting for Conlan’s homecoming, be prepared for the possibility that you may have to wait until 2018.
