Pump It: The Ultimate Strength and Conditioning Playlist

The tunes to get you over the line

Darragh Murphy

It’s a scientific fact that your workouts will be more successful with music.

Don’t believe us? Well, in 2007, USA Track & Field banned the use of I-Pods and other portable music players from marathons “to ensure safety and to prevent runners from having a competitive edge.”

But we’re not talking about marathons right now. We’re talking about your strength and conditioning workout and how you can get the competitive edge over youself, all through the magic of song.

There’s a time and a place for a cheeky bit of Enya on a light jog but, to get the best out of your S&C time, we’ve opted for a more upbeat, intensity-inspiring playlist to get those extra few squats, that last burpee and the final thirty second sprint.

  1. Dropkick Murphys – Shipping Up To Boston. Impossible to be lazy with this as your opener.
  2. Darude – Sandstorm. Ah the 90s.
  3. Guns N’ Roses – Welcome to the Jungle. Workouts, driving, karaoke. This one has many uses.
  4. Kanye West – Jesus Walks. That beat is enough to keep the intensity up for hours.
  5. Rage Against the Machine – Killing in the Name of. To make you feel that you’re not just doing a push-up but you’re shoving the whole planet downwards.
  6. Bruce Springsteen – Born to Run. Because Bruce Springsteen.
  7. Limp Bizkit – Break Stuff. Remember them? Still amazing workout material.
  8. 50 Cent – If I Can’t. If Fiddy is in that shape and he’s listening to his own material, it’s good enough for us.
  9. Daft Punk – Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger. The title says it all.
  10. Piotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky – 1812 Overture. This is a bit of a strange one but, trust us, get to the three minute mark and you will be pumped.
  11. LL Cool J – Mama Said Knock You Out. A classic.
  12. AC/DC – Thunderstruck. LL Cool J into AC/DC? Yep, we went there!
  13. Eminem – Lose Yourself. Look, if you had one shot, or one opportunity to seize everything you ever wanted. One moment. Would you capture it or just let it slip?”
  14. Gonna Fly Now – Bill Conti. A Rocky song at the end of every workout will make sure you don’t quit on yourself early.

Thank us later and treat yourself to a cheeky bit of Bob Marley for your cool down.
