Kilkenny councillor, Maurice Shortall has confirmed he will bring a motion forward to the Kilkenny county council to contact Government ministers over the potential to place a bid to host WrestleMania.
The motion calls upon Minister for Culture, Communications and Sport, Patrick O'Donovan, and Peter Burke, Minister for Enterprise, Tourism and Employment. The statement includes a reference to Failte Ireland and Sport Ireland to examine and pursue a bid to bring WrestleMania to Ireland.
This was confirmed by a social media post by the councillor where he outlined that Ireland would be well suited to hosting the WWE.
He said: "As a globally recognised event with the capacity to attract tens of thousands of international visitors and generate substantial international social media attention, WrestleMania presents a significant opportunity for Ireland to strengthen its position as a leading destination for major event tourism".
We've seen Ireland in recent years secure huge international sporting events like last years NFL match in Croke Park between the Minnesota Vikings and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Another example is Ireland's hopeful participation on home soil in the 2028 Euros.
The councillor went on to say, "Ireland is well placed to present a credible and competitive bid for WrestleMania, given our strong international tourism brand, proven track record in hosting international events, and global reputation as a welcoming destination".
Although previous examples of global sporting events took place in Dublin, and this one tipped to be in Croke Park - councillor - Maurice Shortall believes this potential event could have benefits widespread across the country.
He added: "The wider regional benefit to counties such as Kilkenny would be substantial, with strong potential for tourism spill-over, increased domestic travel, and enhanced international visibility for Ireland's secondary tourism destinations".
While there has not yet been a professional wrestling event in Ireland, could the WWE finally host a major event in Croke Park?
