The police in Brazil do not mess about, and neither do their media.
At almost the same moment four detectives from their fraud squad were giving a press conference detailing the circumstances of Pat Hickey’s arrest, a video of his actual arrest was published by ESPN Brazil.
The head of the Irish and European Olympic Councils has been formally charged with ticket-touting, forming a cartel and illicit marketing.
The maximum sentence he can receive is seven years.
Journalists at the press conference were told that Hickey’s wife tried to convince the arresting officers the 71-year-old had already left Brazil, before he was found in another room, believed to be that of his son.
The ESPN video, the start of which can be viewed below, shows the moment when the authorities caught up with the sports administrator.
