There was a spectacular crash midway through the third stage of the Tour de France this afternoon that has, thus far, ended three riders’ involvement and left many more injured.
The race was suspended for a period as its seriousness became apparent.
Tom Domoulin, William Bonnet and Simon Gerrans abandoned Le Tour during stage the stage after a high-speed crash with approximately 65km to go.
According to CyclingNews, cyclist Laurens ten Dam was initially listed as having abandoned the race but is reported to be in the peloton. His team said he dislocated his shoulder but that it popped back in, enable him to ride on.
Race leader Fabian Cancellara was involved in the incident but was okay to carry on.
