Bottom of the barrel trash-talking picked up by TV cameras.
Australian tennis player Nick Kyrgios plumbed new depths, last night, as he tried to wind up his opponent by claiming a rival player had slept with his girlfriend.
Kyrgios, who last garnered headlines, in June, for not giving a toss for a losing set during his exit from Wimbledon, directed his tirade at Swiss player Stan Wawrinka.
In a remark picked up by a courtside microphone, Kyrgios made the allegation to Wawrinka about his girlfriend [said to be Donna Vekic] and teenaged Australian player, Thanasi Kokkinakis.
‘Kokkinakis banged your girlfriend,’ he declared, midway through the second set. ‘Sorry to tell you that, mate’.
Tackled on the comments, after his victory [Wawrinka retired with a back injury], Kyrgios explained, ‘He was getting a bit lippy.
‘Kind of in the heat of the moment. I don’t know [why]. I just said it.’
Later, two-time Grand Slam winner Wawrinka took to Twitter to give his take on the Australian’s bluster.
What was said I wouldn't say to my worst enemy.
To stop so low is not only unacceptable but also beyond belief.— Stanislas Wawrinka (@stanwawrinka) August 13, 2015
