After the Olympic silver medal heroics of everyone’s favourite Skibbereen siblings, the O’Donovan brothers received a deserved heroes’ welcome on their arrival at Cork airport.

Just over a fortnight after finishing second in the men’s lightweight double sculls final in Rio, the O’Donovans are back on Irish soil but they’re not willing to let up on their journey towards cementing themselves as the most entertaining Irish double act since Dermot Morgan and Ardan O’Hanlon.
And in fact, the O’Donovan brothers pulled a brilliant Father Ted reference out of the bag when interviewed by RTÉ Sport on Monday evening from their welcome party in Skibbereen.

“We’re not great at judging crowds but I’d say there was a few million or something,” said Paul O’Donovan, who followed up his Olympic dream by winning gold at the World Rowing Championships on Saturday.
