The 33-year old remains in hospital after suffering facial injuries in the accident
Never underestimate just how dangerous ski jumping can be. Shows like The Jump can make the sport seem a bit of a novelty event but it is nothing of the sort. It is highly dangerous to fling yourself off a mountain at speeds close to 100 kph and that was illustrated to brutal effect by Swiss jumper Simon Ammann last night.
The 2002 and 2010 Olympic Champion was competing at the famous Four Hills event in Bischofshofen, Austria and on his second jump he lost his balance on landing a 136metre effort, going face first into the uneven landing area.
As you can see below, the 33-year-old suffered what look like pretty serious facial injuries and he was taken to hospital unconscious. Reports in Switzerland now say he has regained consciousness, and he has the use of his arms and legs, but he will remain in hospital.
