You won’t like Novak when he’s angry
World number one Novak Djokovic has apologised to a ballboy after shouting in his face during the Miami Open final yesterday.
The Serb had just lost to the second set to Andy Murray to level the match and, after receiving his towel from the ballboy, furiously screamed in the direction of coach Boris Becker in the stands.
The only problem was that the ballboy was still standing directly in front of him and, judging by his facial expression, must have believed he was the subject of Djokovic’s outburst.
Djokovic, who went on to win the match, then engaged in a row with the chair umpire, who explained that, regardless of the intended recipient of the verbal volley, frightening was ballboy ‘did not look good’.

Following the match, Djokovic admitted his mistake and apologised, saying: ‘I saw the replay, unfortunately the ball boy was in the middle of it and I really feel sorry and I regret that he was there. There was absolutely no intention whatsoever to hurt him or scare him in any kind of way, and I sincerely hope that he forgives me.
‘I really apologise, and also as a parent I do care about children a lot right now. I look at it in a much different way, so I want to apologise to his parents as well for this situation and as a father I wouldn’t wish something like this happens to my son.’
