“So, rest in peace, my little brother. I’ll see you out in the middle.”
The tributes for Phillip Hughes have been nothing short of amazing over the last week. They’ve been nothing short of fitting. The touching social media campaign that saw an entire world honour the Australian’s memory by leaving out their bats was just beautiful.
But Michael Clarke’s speech this morning at his funeral was so moving that it will bring a tear to the eye of anyone who watches it.
“I don’t know about you, but I keep looking for him,” the Australian captain said through a choked up voice during Hughes’ funeral this morning as he recalled fond memories of his “little brother” and how he has since visited the SCG and felt Hughes’ spirit.
Around 5,000 people attended the ceremony in New South Wales and fans lined the streets and applauded as Hughes’ remains were driven away.
And Michael Clarke couldn’t have offered a greater homage or a better send-off with his absolutely movingly powerful speech that will give you goosebumps and tears as cricket said goodbye to one of its own.
