Ice-hockey is a pretty violent sport at the best of times but this is ridiculous

Joe Grimaldi didn’t bring much Christmas or New Year cheer to his last game for the Edinburgh Capitals after this stupid and dangerous incident against the Nottingham Panthers.

The New-Yorker received an 18 match ban for his run in with several Nottingham players as well as appearing to ‘spear’ Maxime Langelier-Parent in the stomach and throwing his helmet at him before launching into a fist-fight.

The Elite Ice Hockey League in the UK handed down a massive 18-game ban and Edinburgh decided to sack the player the following day.

He’s probably lucky he didn’t get a lifetime ban after his pretty reckless actions in a sport that is well known for its violent tendencies:
