Dan Martin’s hopes of winning a classic are over for another year after the Irish cyclists suffered an horrendous crash this afternoon during the Vuelta.
The ProTeam Cannondale-Garmin rider was involved in an accident with just 50KM left on the eight stage of the event that saw Martin injured along with a number of other riders.

He had been in third place overall but the accident means that the 29-year-old had to withdraw along with riders such as Nacer Bouhanni.
We can confirm that @DanMartin86 has withdrawn from #LV2015 following a crash. Has been taken to the hospital.
