There was another scary mishap in the Olympic village last night.
Seven people, including two children, were injured when a massive skycam suspended by cables came hurtling down to the Earth in the Olympic Park in Rio, as Sky News reports.
The television camera, which belonged to the official Olympics broadcast, fell from about 20 metres up after the cables snapped, sparking screams from the crowd below.
A Brazilian news report on the incident began spreading on social media showing the the camera crashing from above the upper concourse to the lower concourse. The clip then cut to a close-up of two women beside the camera on the ground, one of them with a bloodied nose.
A total of four people were taken to hospital, including two children who had been struck by a cable, a Rio Games official told Sky.
Officials confirmed only “minor injuries” were sustained by bystanders and that a full investigation will be launched to find out exactly what caused the camera to fall.
